Welcome to the Center for Mathematical Machine Learning and its Applications (CM2LA)!

 

CM2LA has been selected as a Science Research Center (SRC) sponsored by the Korean Ministry of Science and ICT in 2023. 

 

At CM2LA, we aim to tackle the challenging problems of quantifying artificial neural network-based learning based on mathematics such as analysis, geometric topology, computational science, and statistics. We provide insights into solving intricate problems in the fields of geometry, analysis, and computational science through large-scale machine learning. To accomplish this, CM2LA has a research team comprising six machine learning experts and six mathematicians specializing in analysis, geometry, and statistics who have novel perspectives on machine learning. 

 

Our team is divided into three groups. Large-Scale Physics Based AI Group (Group 1) focuses on establishing a mathematical foundation for large-scale artificial intelligence. Geometry-based Machine Learning Group (Group 2) works on developing new machine learning models based on the geometric and topological structures of data. Mathematical Modeling and Analysis Group (Group 3) aims to build a highly reliable algorithm platform for solving scientific and technological problems. 

 

The goal of CM2LA is to address various machine learning challenges based on mathematical models, theories, and intuition, pushing the boundaries of academic research and pioneering new interdisciplinary fields. We aim to cultivate outstanding researchers with expertise and contribute to enhancing our nation's competitiveness by solving problems in society and industry.

안녕하세요. 수리 기계학습 연구센터장 황형주입니다. 수리 기계학습 연구센터(CM2LA, Center for Mathematical Machine Learning and its Applications)는 과학기술정보통신부에서 지원하는 이공학분야 선도연구센터(SRC) 2023년 신규 과제로 선정되었습니다. 

본 센터에서는 해석학, 기하-위상수학, 계산과학, 통계학과 같은 수리 기반의 연구를 통해 인공신경망 기반 학습의 정량화라는 난제에 도전하고자 합니다. 또한 대규모 기계학습을 통해 기하학, 해석학, 계산과학 분야에 산적한 난제를 해결하는 실마리를 제공하고자 합니다. 이를 위해서 기계학습 전문가 6명과 기계학습에 대한 새로운 관점을 제공할 수 있는 해석, 기학, 통계학 수리 연구자 6명으로 연구단을 구성하고 1그룹에서는 대규모 인공지능에 대한 수학적 기반을 마련하고, 2그룹에서는 데이터의 기하 위상 구조에 기반한 새로운 기계학습 모형 및 심층 신경망 연구개발을 통한 수학적 난제를 해결하며 3그룹에서는 과학기술문제 해결을 위한 신뢰도 높은 알고리즘 플랫폼을 구축하고자 합니다.   

수학적 모델, 이론과 직관을 바탕으로 기계학습의 다양한 문제를 해결하고 학문적 경계를 넘어 새로운 융합연구 분야를 개척하는 것을 목표로 전문성을 갖춘 우수한 연구원을 양성하고 사회적, 산업적 문제를 해결함으로써 국가 경쟁력 향상에 기여하고자 합니다.
